Microneedling with Sculptra

Microneedling with Sculptra can help improve the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines and provide an overall youthful-looking complexion. Sculptra is a dermal filler made from poly-L-lactic acid, which helps to stimulate the production of collagen. Using Sculptra can help improve the appearance of the skin by reducing the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and other signs of aging. Microneedling with Sculptra can be performed on the face, neck, chest, and hands but is especially effective on the mid-cheek region of the face.

About Microneedling

Microneedling is a minimally-invasive cosmetic procedure that involves using fine needles to create tiny punctures in the skin; this triggers the body’s natural healing process, which results in the production of new collagen and elastin. Microneedling can be used to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and other types of skin damage. Microneedling is also known as collagen induction therapy (CIT).

Microneedling with a 1mm needle can treat deeper wrinkles and scars. Microneedling is more invasive than dermal rollers and typically requires a longer recovery. However, it also produces longer-lasting results; this is the microneedling you will find at Channell Wellness & Aesthetics.

Microneedling is usually done in a series of treatments, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. The number of treatments will depend on the condition being treated. Microneedling is considered a safe procedure with minimal side effects. The most common side effects are redness, swelling, and bruising. [1]

What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is a dermal filler made from poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). PLLA is a synthetic form of lactic acid, which is a natural substance found in the body. PLLA is compatible with human tissues because it is:

  • Biodegradable
  • Non-Toxic
  • Does not accumulate in vital organs [2]

Sculptra is high strength, so when it is injected into the skin, it provides structure to support the contours of the face. Sculptra also stimulates the production of collagen.

Collagen is the most abundant protein in our body, and it helps to keep the skin looking young and healthy.[3] As we age, our bodies produce less collagen, which can lead to the formation of wrinkles and fine lines.

Scultpra vs. HA Fillers

What is the difference between PLLA fillers and HA or Hyaluronic Acid fillers?

  • PLLA fillers are made from a synthetic form of lactic acid, while HA fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in the body.
  • PLLA fillers are long-lasting, while HA fillers are not because, after a short time, the HA is absorbed by the body.

The Benefits of Microneedling with Sculptra

Sculptra stimulates collagen synthesis and reinforcement of the extracellular matrix, which keeps skin firm and resilient. There are many benefits of microneedling with Sculptra, including the following:

  1. Reduced appearance of wrinkles and fine lines
  2. Improved skin texture
  3. Improved contours of the face
  4. Increased collagen production
  5. Long-lasting results
  6. Minimal side effects
  7. Minimal Downtime

When Sculptra is combined with microneedling, it increases the efficacy of both procedures. Microneedling creates microscopic channels in the skin, which allows for better absorption of Sculptra. The combination of these two procedures can help to restore a youthful appearance.

Youthful Hands

One of the most obvious and hardest to disguise signs of aging are wrinkles on the hands. The skin on our hands is thin and delicate, and over time it begins to show signs of aging as the veins and bones become more visible.

Microneedling with Sculptra can help to fill in the volume of the hands, which will, in turn, make them look younger. The procedure’s increase in collagen production will also address wrinkles and age spots.

What is the Extracellular Matrix?

The extracellular matrix is a network of proteins and other molecules that helps to keep the skin looking young and healthy. Collagen production begins to decline in our 20s, and by the time we reach our older years, we have lost about 30% of our collagen.[4]

Collagen is triggered when the skin needs to heal, which means when the microneedles penetrate the skin, it signals the body to begin producing collagen.

Sculptra not only helps to stimulate collagen production but also helps to reinforce the extracellular matrix. The Sculptra helps to fill in the gaps in the extracellular matrix, which can help to keep the skin looking young and healthy for longer.

Candidates for Microneedling with Sculptra

Microneedling with Sculptra is a safe and effective treatment for wrinkles and fine lines. It can be used on all skin types and tones.[5]

Microneedling with Sculptra is not recommended for pregnant or nursing women, as well as people who are taking certain medications, such as blood thinners.

Personal Consultation

During your consultation, Dr. Channell will assess your skin and determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure. She will also discuss your goals and expectations for the treatment.

If you are a good candidate for the procedure, she will develop a treatment plan that is tailored to your specific needs. The treatment plan will be based on your skin’s state and the desired improvements. Dr. Channell will also discuss preparation and recovery.

Preparation for Microneedling with Sculptra

Before your procedure, you will need to:

  • Wash your skin with a mild cleanser and pat dry
  • Remove all makeup, lotions, and oils from your face and skin
  • Do not wear makeup, lotions, or oils on the day of your procedure

It is also wise to avoid sun exposure for at least 48 hours before your treatment and stop any medication Dr. Channel has discussed with you. The preparation is relatively straightforward, but we want to ensure you are safe and comfortable.

Recovery From The Procedure

After your session, you can expect some redness, swelling, and possible numbness. Your skin may remain sensitive in the treated areas for the next day or so. Use ice packs and over-the-counter Tylenol as needed for any discomfort experienced, but do not take blood thinners. You can resume your regular skincare routine after one week. While there is no downtime, your skin may be pink, so you may need to take a day to let this resolve.

  • Avoid blood thinners
  • Limit UV exposure
  • Keep skincare routine minimal
  • Stay hydrated
  • Do not get skin tightening or similar treatments
  • Refrain from vigorous exercise

For the following few days:

Gently massage the area with a hypoallergenic cream once daily following Dr. Channell’s techniques. If you experience any strange skin reactions, like changes in texture or swelling, or redness, please reach out to us for help.

These results will be worth it! You’ll see a brighter complexion as new collagen molecules repair or replace existing fibers. Blemishes like sunspots will also fade, leaving gorgeous, glowing skin.
