Skin Tightening Treatments

A skin tightening treatment is a cosmetic procedure designed to improve sagging and loose skin to restore a firmer and more youthful-looking appearance. As patients age, they slowly lose collagen and elastin in their skin, resulting in visible signs of aging such as wrinkles and fine lines. These changes can cause patients to become self-conscious, prompting them to seek effective solutions to tighten and firm their skin.

Dr. Patricia Guevara-Channell is a board-certified physician and founder of Channell Wellness & Aesthetics. With a focus on providing safe, effective, and quality care to each patient, she has built a reputation for her personable approach and transformative results.

About Skin Tightening Treatments

Skin tightening treatments are a collection of different cosmetic treatments designed to help reduce the effects of aging, sun exposure, and lifestyle habits that can negatively impact the quality and appearance of one’s skin. Each of our treatments helps stimulate the production of collagen, leading to healthier, firmer, and more elastic skin. At Channell Wellness & Aesthetics, we offer Exion, Emface, and microneedling with PRP to help patients firm and tighten their skin.

Suitable Candidates

Most patients interested in addressing loose or lax skin may be an appropriate candidate for our skin tightening treatments. Patients interested in naturally firming their skin and reducing the appearance of wrinkles, creases, or lines are recommended for this treatment, as well as patients interested in enhancing their collagen levels for more youthful-looking skin. Those interested in addressing other related concerns, such as enlarged pores and/or acne scarring, may also find our treatments highly beneficial.

All candidates interested in our skin tightening treatments should be in good overall health and free from any underlying medical conditions that may inhibit healing. Patients should also have realistic expectations about what they can achieve with this treatment. Patients should also be nonsmokers or willing to quit for the duration of their procedure and recovery. Individuals with defibrillators, pacemakers, and metal implants may not be the best candidates for treatment. However, we recommended that they schedule a consultation to discuss alternative treatment options. Each patient’s eligibility for our skin tightening treatments will be determined by Dr. Guevara-Channell during their personal consultation.

Personal Consultation

The first step in skin tightening is attending a personal consultation with Dr. Guevara-Channell. During this consultation, she will ask patients about their medical history, current medications, concerns, and ideal treatment outcome. This consultation also serves as an opportunity for the patient to ask questions or voice any concerns they may have about the procedure. No matter what type of look or treatment the patient is aiming for, our team will be here to support them.

Preparation

Preparation for each skin tightening treatment will vary depending on the type of treatment performed and the concerns being addressed. Certain treatments are stronger and offer more extensive corrections than others, and may require more preparation. Other treatments that focus primarily on superficial concerns will require minimal, more straightforward preparation. Generally speaking, patients will need to discontinue using medications and herbal supplements that contain blood-thinning properties. Patients should also stop smoking several weeks in advance. Dr. Guevara-Channell will provide the patient with a set of personalized preparation instructions during their consultation once a treatment plan has been established.

Procedure

On the day of the procedure, they should arrive at the clinic with clean skin. This means that there should not be any makeup, fragrances, or skincare products applied. The procedure will begin with the cleansing and sanitization of their skin. The duration of the treatment will vary, but they can expect their treatment to last between 15-60 minutes.

Exion

Exion is a skin rejuvenation treatment that combines microneedling, radiofrequency (RF) energy, ultrasonic energy, and artificial intelligence to soften and reduce the appearance of visual signs of aging. This treatment first uses microneedles to create tiny punctures in the skin before radiofrequency is used to apply internal thermal heat to the underlying layers of skin. By doing so, the production of collagen is synthesized, improving the texture, tone, and overall quality of the skin.

Ultrasonic technology may support skin rejuvenation and hydration, potentially enhancing hyaluronic acid presence in the skin. Hyaluronic acid is a deeply hydrating substance that can naturally be found in the body in the eyes and joints. The use of ultrasonic energy to increase each patient’s HA content can help rejuvenate their skin, restoring a more youthful-looking appearance to their skin.

Emface

Emface is a non-invasive procedure that combines both RF energy and high-intensity facial electromagnetic stimulation (HIFES) to help enhance the production of collagen and elastin, as well as tone and strengthen the facial muscles. This treatment stimulates supramaximal muscle contractions to help reduce the appearance of facial aging and to improve the overall tone and appearance of the skin. This means the contractions are stronger than what can be achieved through voluntary contractions. (1)

During each patient’s treatment, Dr. Guevara-Channell will apply the Emface applicator to the treatment area, which will then start to contract their muscles. There is no anesthesia needed for this treatment as patients will only feel a slightly warm and tingling sensation. After approximately 20 minutes, the applicators will be removed, and the patient is free to leave.

Microneedling with PRP

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a concentrated solution of platelets derived from a small sample of each patient’s blood that can be used in a wide variety of different procedures. The platelets are concentrated through a centrifuge and separated from other cellular components. PRP contains over 20 different types of growth factors that help contribute to new cell growth, wound healing, collagen production, and inflammation reduction. (2) PRP preparations typically contain platelet concentrations several times higher than those found in normal blood, often around 4x or more, depending on the processing method. (3)

During Microneedling with PRP, the patient will first have a topical anesthetic applied to their face to help reduce any potential discomfort. Dr. Guevara-Channell will collect a sample of blood, processing it at high velocity to separate each component. Microneedling will then be used to create micropuncture, which not only serves to stimulate the production of new collagen over time, but also optimizes the body’s reception of the PRP serum. After the solution has been applied, the patient will be free to return to their daily schedule.

Recovery

Each patient’s recovery will vary depending on the type of procedure performed and the results they are trying to achieve. While the recovery timeline will vary, the overall healing process is relatively simple. Patients may experience temporary tenderness or redness in the treated areas. Patients can typically return to their daily schedules immediately after treatment, but may be asked to avoid unprotected sun exposure or physical exercise throughout their initial healing phase. Dr. Guevara-Channell will provide further recovery instructions during the personal consultation.

Results

Patients may see a noticeable improvement in the appearance of their skin immediately after their treatment, but the results of the procedure will become more apparent as collagen levels increase. Patients will be able to enjoy smoother, tighter, and more youthful-looking skin, as well as a brighter, more radiant complexion. The results will gradually continue to improve as collagen and elastin are continuously synthesized, allowing patients to enjoy their results for months. Please note that some patients will need to undergo multiple sessions of their chosen treatment to experience their desired results.
